It has been almost a year since Susie Stone's last exhibition at Eames Fine Art, Finding the Line, and in that time she's been deep in a period of experimentation in her studio.

 

Her Collectors' Studio Showcase on a Saturday morning in September offered us a rare chance to see that process up close – to view where Susie’s work stands right now, still taking shape, ahead of her new exhibition at Eames Fine Art next spring.

Lucy Bainbridge arrived at the Eames Collectors' Studio on a suitably grey and rainy Saturday morning – "I was a bit disappointed when I woke up," she told Vincent Eames, “Because I knew I'd be missing all this lovely rain by being inside – the first heavy rain we’ve had for weeks!" For an artist whose entire practice depends on exactly this kind of weather, it's ironic that the best shooting conditions of the summer arrived on the day she’s here to talk about them.

 

We invited Lucy into Eames to celebrate a milestone: this year's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition marked the tenth time she's been invited to show there. "Which I commented means that I'm just very old," Lucy deadpanned – but the real story, as Vincent drew out over the course of the talk, is of an artist twenty years into her career who is still restlessly reinventing how she works.

 

Artist Hamish Macaulay joined gallery director Vincent Eames for a conversation around his current exhibition, 'Distant Shores' - sharing the memories, materials and changing light that shape this latest body of work.

A personal tribute: some memories and a lasting respect and love for Norman Ackroyd from Rebecca Eames

A chance to view which works from the Eames Fine Art exhibiting artists were selected by the curators of the London Original Print Fair for their special online exhibitions and selections by famous collectors. 

We're all having to spend a lot more time in our own homes at the moment and this gives us better chance to enjoy the spaces we have made for ourselves and to spend time with the artworks we have collected. 

 

How a collector collects; how they make a selection of which works to invest in and which to hang on their walls to enjoy every day is something that always intrigues us at Eames.  We're firm believers that a personal collection of art - whether you have several homes, or a single room to work within, is a highly creative process; our collections tell stories about us and act as great insights into the way we think, the way we love and the way we live.

Jason Hicklin has just completed a series of 14 beautiful etchings of the Pembrokeshire coast. We're sad not to be showing them in the Print Room as planned, but by launching the works online instead we have enjoyed presenting them and talking about the works in a new way.
