*** The Views of Rome are notably hard works to date. Together with watermarks and paper type, signs of plate reworking are ways of identifying the different states. This work is dry mounted, making watermarks difficult to identify. However, referring to Arthur Hind’s Giovanni Battista Piranesi : a critical study, this work is believed to be state I/III (the First Paris Edition). This impression does not have any numbering identified in later impressions. Works in excellent condition from this series can sell up to £5000. ***
