I grind through rough sun, alder-shadow, heat

peel off the day's tight

        glove and slip into river skin

                              its cool holds me

till I am nothing,

          a drifting

within its summer

          slowness, its unspooling indifferent

green silk.

In the river,    time

                                  is silty,       falling slowly

      to dark, 

sweeping

                head long

                                    down stream, out

                                                                 to sea

without

                   meaning

                                 we rise

     spin,  dance

                                                 fall
