Eames Fine Art is delighted to welcome Jason Hicklin back to the gallery for an exhibition of new etchings based on recent visits to the Isle of Skye. Moving on from his series of projects on the River Thames (see 2024's The River Part III, and 2023 The River Part II), in this exhibition Jason returns to seascapes and the dramatic landscapes of the Inner Hebrides.
"I wanted to use the different etching processes to make a portrait of each facet of the island, and each particular shape the island has. But you have to explore, you have to find it and I think my way of finding it is to walk it. I have to walk the landscape, to spend time in it...
Walking around Skye and working on these etchings, I thought a lot about the fact that we’re just passing through this time; this landscape, and obviously the island outlives us all. It’s that passing through, and being ‘put in your place’ ... I’m here for a few years; I’m here for a few days; a few months. Your human scale becomes very obvious. You’re tiny compared to these ancient mountains and they’re just allowing you in for a little while. When I’m gone, they will still be here ... it’s a haunting landscape, Skye.”
